Has Murray McCully made the right move on Auckland?

Has the government done the right thing by taking over the running of Auckland's waterfront for the duration of the Rugby World Cup?

Rugby World Cup Minister Murray McCully has cited plans to expand the fanzones around the waterfront, with him instructing the Queens Wharf management team to plan for large numbers.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown has blamed poor communication between Auckland Council and the government for the chaos that occurred on Friday night. The Mayor has now been left out of the Party Central plans.

Is this move by the government the right thing to do?

If the RWC wasn't all about money these days... They could of had games during the day say 3pm kick off and had the entertainment at night.. Not sure about the last world cup we had here from what I remember games were held during the day and their wasn't any problems... To me the IRU has given country's hosting such events even more of a burden by demanding night time games... To me the only people at fault are the people making the most money the IRU and NZRU they should be the ones paying for the combo payouts... And in hine site should of helped pay for the rail network and made sure it could handle such a strain for their events....

National politicking again. The person who came up with free transport for those with Rugby tickets was way out of order. Then invites one and a half million people+ to a party on the water front is asking for trouble. Then forty odd thousand try to get to Eden park after the fire work display by 830pm is not going to happen. No transport system could handle that. Even McCully with his magic wand would not be able to do it.So don't blame the council.Blame the train company if you want cause of there broken down rolling stock. The national party sold the council a Lemon. That's what happened a LEMON.Then has the cheek to blame Len Brown.Get back on your steed Murry no Knights needed here.
