Does Mr. Gillard deserve a hero award? What would you have done in his situation?

Grant Gillard is a unfortunate hero - he should be charged with nothing - he was acting in self defense against someone the world is a better place without.

He was only protecting himself and his property which is more than those softies in the police could do. They will take it to trial now because he has shown them up. He is a hero and we need more like him. Decent people need to push back and reclaim nz. And those not involved need to back those who end up in trouble for defending themselves. "the only thing needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". It's so true and so reflective of the govt and the "fun police"

By Defend Yourself

Mr Gillard has the right to defend himself like anyone else when confronted with an agressor, I have and will again. But was charged with murder and had to go through High Court before being aquitted.

Mr Gillard, I feel for you, good luck.

Interesting quote - "Hero or Villain". I have to agree with Dave "Neither hero or villan. He is a man caught up in an unfortunate situation not of his own doing, who did what he could, and who was not responsible for the outcome. He should be able to get back to his life and business as usual". The sad thing is, Bruce Allan Jones has a family, who are not bad people, and have to hear people saying that Grant Gillard is a hero because now Bruce is dead. As a relative, that's a terrible thing to hear, although I can see how people feel that way - it is probably something I would have said too, if I was an outsider to it all... I guess it is just different to be on 'this' side of fence for the first time. I do believe, however, Grant did the right thing by defending himself, and none of this is his fault.

A man who died after a struggle with a pharmacist during a botched burglary was a career criminal who had been out of jail less than a month.
Bruce Allan Jones, 43, was freed late last month after serving time in jail for burglary and theft and had also killed another person in a drug fuelled high speed road crash in 2002.
He had just come out of jail last month after serving time in jail for burglary and theft after being sentenced to three years' jail in March 2008.
He died on Tuesday morning after a struggle with pharmacy owner Grant Gillard, 68, at Gillard's Pharmacy in Auckland.
It is understood Jones may have gone into cardiac arrest after the altercation with Mr Gillard in the pharmacy.
Last night police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said an autopsy carried out yesterday had provided "no conclusive result" to the cause of death.
She declined to comment further on details of the struggle.
"We are still awaiting the results of forensic tests."
The New Zealand Herald said Jones' earlier crash, on March 28, 2002, happened after he had just shared a joint with two people and was driving to Auckland via Katikati.
He swerved across the road several times, causing other motorists to take evasive action.
At one stage he drove in the wrong lane for 200m, and reached speeds of up to 120km/h, the Herald said.
Just south of Katikati, he swerved across the centre line and collided with another vehicle, killing the driver, Lorraine Joyce Hodgson.
The crash broke his legs and jaw, and seriously injured his partner, Melanie Jones.
============
Wow, his joyride started after he shared a joint with 2 other people. "Let's de-criminalise marijuana - all it does is chill you out". Yeah right.
Nice work Grant Gillard.

If Grant Gillard is charged with anything by the police there will be a huge public outcry.
