North Island

Install a water tank to collect rainwater and get irrigation installed for your lawn. Tanksalot.co.nz are a good place to start.

South Island

Regular hoeing is something of a cathartic task and hugely beneficial for the soil because it helps to incorporate more carbon into the soil when ploughing in sprouting weeds. The top layer of aerated soil also acts a bit like an insulation layer to the heaver soil beneath and conserves water.

Plant of the week

Fraxunis Griffithii

Evergreen ash or flowering ash from the Oleaceaea family. Touch dependable, suitable for all soil types and provides dappled light to your garden very quickly. 8 metres high x 6 metres wide. Tolerates frost too.

Design Tip of the week

When using feature rocks in your garden install LED rope around the circumference of the rock at ground level, the effect at night is superb. When using feature rocks always group in 3s and 5s too please - big groups are good.
