Food prices set to soar - how will you cope?

How are you planning to cope with the imminent rise in food prices set to sweep the globe, together with our own rise in GST?

The UN and Agricultural Organisation says a drought in Russia, which has led to Russian export restrictions are partly to blame for a surge in the price of wheat, leaving food prices at their highest level in two years. The food price index rose by 5% between July and August. A low European grain harvest is also set to send waves through the world food industries.

What changes are you making to your shopping on the basis of this and the upcoming GST rise in New Zealand? Do you have any tips you want to share?

Reduce or restrict all sugar and saturated fats from foods sold in NZ. Lack of wheat is not the problem. Its the unrestricted inclusion of sugar in our foods & drinks that is.

What I have noticed is a big increase In the stuff they use to make meat products weigh more.. I enjoy my pork and bacon and recently I have noticed a lot more of these weigh more things have been added.... to the stage in some cases the whole bacon goes under what seems like water oil and egg... They said it was to make the meat last longer... Seems nothing more to me than unhealthy and a money crab for the unsuspecting public... Making meat last longer is ok bluntly making it weigh more is just another rip off....

My radio station has been radiolive from the time Martin Crump moved from ZB and I do enjoy most hosts but one thing that has bugged me is that the sports results very rarely mention my Melbourne Storm team except when they were in trouble but last night was their final game as a team as they will be short of some of the good players and they had a good win but I have not heard them mentioned on the radio today yet but if they have my hearing aids must have been on dip.Must say that the way the station covered the Christchurch dreadful disaster was great and very kind in the handling of people who rang in distressed from the time I turned on radio at 6am Saturday.I am sure that people got comfort by Tony and other hosts.I have family down there and was worried sick until they made contact but my heart goes out to everyone concerned.Looking at the rubble makes me wonder how will that beautiful city recover from this quake and I pray that there will never bee another such thing happen anywhere again but we do know that no one knows where the next might be and so much of NZ is on fault lines including my own fair city. I never did like Marcus Lush when he started but now I have become one of his fans and have followed his DVD's and miss him when he is away but my Martin Crump is my very favourite in the evening along with Ewing but could do without Mike Laws but guess it takes all to make life interesting. Thanks PK.

World wheat stocks 'to hit highest for decades'
Global wheat stocks may be poised to hit their highest since at least the 1980s, the Canadian Wheat Board data has said, as it slashed its forecast for the prices this year's harvest will achieve.

World wheat production, while set to fall in 2010-11 as low prices deter sowings, will outpace demand by some 10m-15m tonnes, the grain marketing giant said.

The surplus will swell world stocks, set to end the current crop year at 197m on US estimates, to 212m tonnes, easily ahead of the recent high set nine years ago.

The UN and Agricultural Organisation says a drought in Russia, which has led to Russian export restrictions are partly to blame for a surge in the price of wheat, leaving food prices at their highest level in two years.

LOOKS LIKE THE UN IS TELLING LITTLE PORKIES TO INFLATE THE WHEET PRICE????

By Another Tory Lie ....

Another Tory lie that food prices will only increase 2.5%. Bread; to produce a loaf, power cost go up, packaging goes up, cost transport, ingredients go up, all by 2.5% each component! So when is a 2.5% increase not an 2.5% increase!?!GET RID OF THESE IDIOTS!!
