Figs and limes are ripening

Limes

By Helen Jackson and Tony Murrell

Helen says:

While many of us fancy opening a cafe or bakery, very few of us get to realise this dream and actually have success. This morning we celebrate the success of Kim Evans at Little & Friday and Kim will join us in studio to talk about setting up and running a small business with advice for those considering their options.

Kim is a wonderful pastry success and her new Little and Friday Book has recipes to share.

We will be talking about your favourite pastry treats. Be it pies, tarts, croissants etc, we would love to hear your favourite recipes.

Figs are ripening in the north, as are Tahitian limes. When you have a whole tree of quinces or ripe limes what do you do?

These fig, prosciutto and blue cheese pastries have a sweet, salty, sharp contrast in all one bite and are perfect for entertaining.

If you feel like drying your figs then try our wonderful fig and walnut shortbread recipe.

Tony says:

This Autumn has been spectacular so far, in fact everyone is saying that’s its better than summer! But what does that mean for the coming season's crops?

The wet summer in some parts of the country has seen the rise and unfortunately fall of many newly planted gardens around the country. So how important is it to get drainage right when setting up a new garden or planting into an existing one? We speak to the experts.

New new new, want to improve flocculation in your clay soil? I have found the product for you!

What's in Season from the farmers market? And how best to cook and eat plants and vegetables that you may have never come across before.

Putting in the hard graft. How to make the task of turning soil a lot easier on your back.

Some great emails from you this week and we will read these out on the show.

Cheers and looking onward to your company come 6am on RadioLIVE.
