Environews - The Yellowhead or Mohua recorded live in The Catlins - Audio

Sat, 17 Dec 2011 11:48
Environews. Our glorious and remote Southern Forest Park called The Catlins. Hear its sounds and the dedicated efforts to save one of our most delightful and colourful birds, the Southern gem called the Mohua or Yellowhead recorded live in the field with Graeme and DoC conservator Graeme Loh. These locals nearly didn't make it. By 1900, the bird had started to disappear from many of its traditional areas and, over the last 30 years, the mohua has experienced a dramatic decline to the point where they are now a rare forest gem.
