have a look back through the media at "telecom" headlines... its utterly ridiculous, nz media in vodafone/goverments pockets? michael jackson/ boxing day tsunami never had 1/4 the coverage as telecom is getting, this is a sure sign that a media organisation is taking profits it would otherwise make from working on real stories via another source.

The reason why our country is shot is the govt runs everything. The state should run schools, or hospitles, or roads. They make laws and that is all.

when a competitor has to fork out a $billion to compete in a saturated market where the return is minimal be greatful there is at least a duopoly. As for regulation any more of it and you can kiss goodbye to this country.

Caught between a rock and a hard place. I quit Telecom and moved to Vodafone a couple of years ago. Biggest mistake I ever made... or was it? I've had a bitter experiences with both these companies. I was looking forward to the day when I could cancel my Vodafone contract and head back to Telecom... it now looks like that would be a REAL bad idea. 2 Degrees unfortunately appear to lack competitive and comparative plans - features like x number of free minutes, x number of free txts, 'bestmate' etc etc can equate to significant savings. So now what?

On the face I'd say they do sort of have a duopoly, they are the dominate players. There is only one other company with it's own network, that is 2 degrees, but in certain areas 2 degrees does use the vodafone network. If 2 degrees can get more customers their ability to bring down prices should be enhanced. I am against commerce commission regulating them, as regulation is evil. Though since we are nationally a pack of dirty socialists, I suspect they eventually will go all communistic on us. So their best option would be to regulate the extra charges that occur when you call/text someone on another network.

If you don't like it either raise some capital and form your own telecommunications company or shut up. Nothing worse than someone who wants something changed but is too lazy to do anything about it.
