Did you celebrate Waitangi Day?

Did you participate in Waitangi Day celebrations?

The debate over Treaty of Waitangi inclusions in SOE sale legislation in the run-up to this year's Waitangi Day once again opened up the discussion over the Treaty as a whole.

Waitangi Day was met with protests at the treaty grounds in the Bay of Islands town of Paihia. Up and down the country, however, New Zealanders peacefully celebrated the day.

How did you celebrate Waitangi Day?

Did you celebrate Waitangi Day?As for Waitangi Day I out of thousands usually do celebrate Waitangi Day but this year I decided to stay at home and do some work.As for this years Treaty of Waitangi celebrations and also debate and inclusions in SOE sale legislation why debate over issues such as the SOE sale legislation. What has that got to do with the Treaty of Waitangi clause 9. That should be kept separate. All Waitangi Day was all about was mostly to do with the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 by at least 45 chiefs from several tribes and also a representative from the British Crown. Thats what the Treaty of Waitangi was all about.

I had a sleep in then done some house work.. I have never celebrated Waitangi day... Nor has any other person including my Maori friends I know... To me Waitangi is just a small town up north that has some history to it... I have called it New Zealand day personally for a long time now be nice if we did recognise it as such...

Just recognise that it is a day that I don't have to work. Waitangi Day as far as I can remember is a day where a bunch of angry people want to attack the government. instead of it being a holiday that is meant to celebrate the unity of people it always seem to be the opposite. To all other New Zealanders (including those that have immigrated over here) it just looks like another way for Maori wanting a handout for doing nothing. An opinion which I am sure Maori wouldn't want. in any case I don't really understand the supposed division between Maori and Pakeha when there are no full blooded Maori left, because would that mean they are denying their Pakeha heritage and they hate themselves?

Waitangi Day celebrations everywhere except at the Treaty Grounds were fine, it needs to be a non-political day up there with no politicians attending other than in a private capacity and no media. There were nice pictures of a pleasant day being had by all from all over New Zealand that could have been shown but the rubbish from the Treaty Grounds seems to be what the media pack are looking for. What is that all about?

No. Its a day for the so called "natives" to get on TV and preach about how evil the whites are. They have too much of a say, move to aussie.
