Christmas day potatoes, gardening presents and mosquito control over summer - December 19

This weekend I'lll be talking spuds for Christmas day and the best buys for Christmas in the garden (Tony’s top ten best buys!)

Helen will guide you through choosing your ham, preparing your ham and different glaze recipes and then how to store your ham. She will also be talking Christmas Day salads and alternatives to Christmas pudding, since there is always someone who doesn't like it!

We'll also be talking about how to survive in your garden this summer – creating shade – cooling water features – creating a place to retreat to and the all-important fly and Mozzie control over the summer months.

If you have any questions for the show, just ask below!

Thanks,
Tony (and Helen!)

Hello Helen and Tony, as an avid listener and regular caller to your"kitchen and garden show", I like to listen to "audio " later to make sure I didn't miss anything of interest. Was wondering if you realised there is no broardcast from the last 15minutes of Bruce Hopkins show to start of your show at 6.30am.
Great to have you home again Tony. Helen and you make a great on-air team!
Thankyou, Gay Tait

Hi Helen, heard you talking about wasps in the garden. Heard on the radio recently to put about 1/2 a cup of raspberry cordial into a 1.25 litre empty soft drink bottle and hang the bottle in the garden. wasps go into the bottle but then can't fly out. Chap reckoned it worked a treat and has done this for some years. Have yet to try it myself but sounds a cheap option. cheers, Lorraine

Hi Toni, I have a problem with my cauliflowers. When they get to about 150mm across or smaller they start to turn a pinkish to purple colour. When they are small they are white but then they change I cover them up with the leaves but make no differance. Is it the soil, to much sun beats me this is the second year it has happened.
I love your show, many thanks. Anne Taylor 039427866.

Helen
You were wondering about getting rid of house flies . By accident we came across Pledge clean and dust ,the one with the green top and blue container, I don't know what's in it but after you polish your window sills all the flies that walk on them suddenly spin round and die. we have been using it for the last few years and never have to use fly spray any more . I suggest you give it a go.

Regards

Bill Bennett.

I have a raised garden which I planted beetroot, silverbeet, cabbages and zucchini. The roots of the plants have this tiny white insect on them and the plants have not grown much at all.they have gone a yellowy colour. The plants were planted into topsoil and compost and there are lots of worms in the box.I have already had to empty out one box because that one got clubroot. What am I doing wrong and what is causing this.We are rotating plants and using your tui garden products. Please help.
