Here's some tips from Kirk on how to begin the process of building your own home:
Don't be afraid to dream when it comes to planning the design of your new home. Have a look around the internet, make notes and print out pictures of the styles and finishes that you like, and even have a drive around and take some photos. Remember, the ultimate goal is to live the dream...
Once you have the ideas in your head, on the back of your napkin, or as fully developed plans, sit down with an expert and turn your dream into a design. Over the coming days a designer will transform that dream into a floor plan, some elevations, and then a full 3-dimensional walk around / fly around model.
Once everyone is happy that the Design matches the Dream, your builder shouldl prepare a fixed price proposal for you. This is a detailed document that details everything about your new home, including the cost to build it. Up until this point there is no commitment required from you.
Once the fixed price proposal is complete and meets your requirements, if you have chosen to do this with Palladium Homes, they will prepare the Contract to Build. At this point you pay a 5% deposit and the process gets under way. The architects will prepare the full working drawings, the plans will then be lodged with council and building consent will be issued. As soon as the building consent is issued work will commence on site on your new home!
