Ask a double glazing expert

This weekend on Design & Build we investigate retrofitting double glazing to your home. We ask what different products and systems are available and look at the benefits double glazing has in terms of energy efficiency and of course you heating bill. Brice Mason from the Double Glazing Company joins us live in the studio to answer your questions on this relatively new technology for our Kiwi homes.

I have a 70s home wooden home, that has an old brown alum slider, that needs replacing and double glazed, Want to replace, can you give me a contact person who I can go to. My upstairs windows are also brown, and I get incredible condensation through them, can, should I have these changed also, or would it be ok to have double glazing put in and leave the existing Alum ? Another window is steel, would it be advisable to have this changed to double glazing? Thankyou

Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to ask my question but that's where google took me so I'm taking the chance... I'm located in North-Africa and one of my clients is a small company making double-glazing windows for homes and businesses. My client has invested on some heavy Italian equipment that they wish to optimize. The client lacks know-how and we're looking for an international consulting expert in the double-glazing making industry / equipment to help them sort things out. Any hint would be appreciated! Omar

Hi Tania, i understand your concerns over the ruining the look of old villa's but double glazed aluminium inserts are the best way. See the link below, there are some fine examples of aluminium inserts into Period homes in the UK. Also by doing it this way you are guaranteed a good seal from aluminium to timber - if you could just replace your existing single glass for double glazing most timber windows are 'ill fitting' therefore you would still have a very drafty window. http://www.theheritagewindowcompany.co.uk/benenden_gallery.htm Hope this help, kevin@aucklanddoubleglazing.co.nz (09 447 1760)

Hi - I have an old, lovely, but cold villa in Northcote. I want to install double glazing, but eveything on offer requires me to have the windows replaced with aluminium windows or have 'secondary glazing' added, both of which ruin the old look of my home. Are there solutions where you can fit double glazing and keep your old windows without ruining the look? Tania
