Are the 33 massacred dogs better off dead?

| More

Is it possible to live a 'normal' life as a dog amongst 38 other dogs? Animal inspectors are considering laying charges after 33 dogs were slain by rifle, following a dispute between two neighbours in Wellsford, north of Auckland. Would these 39 dogs living together have been living full and happy lives?

Chris I wouldnt worry about Whitey, hes a religous loon who shrieks "pc brigade" without thinking through the issues

Whitey, some of your comments are so far off, I struggle to stop laughing. ACC, is world class, we are not over taxed. NZ is still considered one of the best places to live. According to International Living, New Zealand is the fifth best place to live.

lot of media attention.
why not put that effort into the more than 30 babies at least killed by their defactos or other family members over the last few years

I agree with Sandra on this. Our country is a very scary one. Our country is a beautiful and I feel very privilaged to have been born in such a young country. However, the violence against animals, children and women here is off the scale. I do not point the finger at any one race, gender or ecomomic state. We are all responsible for each other, but i believe we dont know how to look after one another as we are far to focused on our own seleves. For example, i ask how many of us would go to the neighbour, who has 40 dogs, and start to help him or her and find out whether they can cope, feed themselves and animals, crazy and/or needs help, maybe they just loves animals etc and then try to make difference if they could? Im fustrated at the holes in our community support. Shooting anything in the middle of the day is insane! No this is not a council problem, not a one man and his dogs problem...this shooting is a reflection of our own wider community.

Yes I think that the 33 massacred dogs should be dead by and put to rest. The thing is that the owners should be prosecuted heavily and fined for all of the harm they have caused. The other thing is that I am not a dog lover myself nor do I own any dogs nor do I breed any dogs but yes by all means they should be put to sleep.

By treating the symptoms

I agree with sandra and even whitey in his generalised points...there is a connection between our most subtle to our most blatant crimes and why we indeed do have appalling suicide, child abuse, animal cruelty, substance abuse & domestic violence statistics...all of which are only final manifestations of prolonged illness. We are as strong as our weakest link it seems.
For example...Domestic violence & Child sex offenders are sentenced very lightly (I mention this without judgement or anger to offenders as I see them as suffers of appalling illness also) and later released into the environments they offended in, usually taken in by family members whom are most likely also their victims, as is the behaviour of untreated victims...with token "on going" care from services suffering scattered energies and egos rather than overburdenship.
ACC has been a mess from the very beginning...eg: the sensitive claims unit has never known what it was doing. New Zealand Drs dont want to touch it so ACC bring in Indian pschiatrists DEsensitised to child sex abuse in their own country to assess the needs of victims in this country...most of which they deem have no need for on going care, especially not financial as kids are not picking rubbish off dumps(they assume).
ACC's Victims complaints units are another fiasco designed to protect the needs of ACC employees. Refusing to listen to the real professionals...yes there are actually some survivors of child abuse...the systems are doomed to fail and our most vulnerable give up. ...And as for cultural sesitivity and PC observations?...just another P.C hypocrasy in spiel rather than action... Need I mention the cycle that is being spewed into your neibourhoods?? ..alas many will continue to rage at final manifestations ...the Least of which will be animal cruelty...

Humans Dancing on Earth
Humans Dancing on Earth
Happiness and dancing transcend political boundaries and occur in practically every human society. Above, Matt Harding traveled through many nations on Earth, started dancing, and filmed the result. The video is perhaps a dramatic example that humans from all over planet Earth feel a common bond as part of a single species. Happiness is frequently contagious -- few people are able to watch the above video without smiling.
