Alisa Sanson - Parkwood Garden of the National Significance

29/10/2016

Just over ten years old, Parkwood is characterised by sweeping lawns and borders filled with colour during spring and summer. A long border of Sally Holmes roses edged with catmint leads the way to the woodland garden falling gently below. Rhododendrons, camellias and azaleas and many other species and varieties are found in abundance. There are many interesting ground-cover plants also: lamium, hostas and pulmonarias provide interest through the seasons. Clematis 'Jackmanii' flower profusely throughout the garden. Several areas are devoted to moisture-loving plants. One of the special features is an enclosed formal garden with David Austin and climbing roses, clematis, delphiniums, aquilegias and lilies edged with a lavender hedge. Bird life abounds at Parkwood where tui enjoy the plentiful supply of nectar in the spring. E; careyailsa.sanson@xtra.co.nz W: http://www.gardens.org.nz/hamilton-waikato-gardens/parkwood/
