The 1500m final managed to draw the largest crowd so far at the Samsung Olympic Fan Zone in the Atrium at Britomart, Auckland.
Up to 300 gathered to watch Nick Willis finish ninth in the final, 6 seconds off his personal best time recorded just a fortnight ago.
Fan Zone concierge Jacinda Stabey-Harman said the race was perfectly timed to meet the morning rush to work.
“The Fan Zone has always been about giving people a link to the Olympics and the Kiwi team so to be able to have Nick’s race live as people drifted through to work was awesome, it was a really great atmosphere the place was buzzing before the race. Shame about the result though,” she said.
The first 100 people on site also received a free coffee to enjoy in the build up. The Fan Zone has been receiving around 1000 visitors each day to watch the Olympic action.
